Will it work on my phone?
On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.
On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.
It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

The trains out: Germany, Austria, Poland — nothing changes

Prague is a few hours from Dresden and Berlin, from Vienna, from Bratislava and from Kraków, and every one of those is in the European Union. Crossing changes the network your phone is on and changes nothing on your bill: the same rule applies on both sides. Signal on the international lines is decent in the valleys and drops in the tunnels and the deeper cuttings, on any network. It is one of the few borders in Europe with genuinely nothing to check.
The koruna: your card converts, your data does not
Czechia is in the EU but not in the euro, so shops, restaurants and ticket machines charge in koruna and your bank converts it. Two practical consequences. First, when a card terminal or a cash machine offers to charge you in euros instead, that conversion is the machine’s, not your bank’s, and it is rarely the better one — paying in the local currency is the safer default. Second, an eSIM you buy before travelling is paid for in your own currency, on your own terms, before you land.
Which eSIM works in Czechia?
A Czechia eSIM runs on the local networks, O2 (5G), Vodafone (5G). Two networks with 5G means that where one is thin the other often is not. Data only: your usual number stays on your own SIM, so calls and bank codes keep arriving.
Coverage: Prague, Brno and the countryside
Prague and Brno are well covered with 5G, including most of the Prague metro, and so are the motorways and the main towns. In the Bohemian and Moravian countryside — the villages, the forests of Bohemian Switzerland, the hills along the border — it is patchier, and in the valleys it can vanish for a stretch. Nothing dramatic by European standards, but download the map before a day of walking.
