Will it work on my phone?
On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.
On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.
It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Which eSIM works in the Canary Islands?
There is no separate "Canary Islands" eSIM: a Spain eSIM works on every island (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) on the same networks as the mainland, Orange (5G), Movistar (5G). Check that a plan says Spain, and be careful with "Europe" plans that list countries: the Canaries are covered wherever Spain is.
Coverage on the islands
Coverage is good in resorts, towns and along the main roads. In deep ravines (barrancos), high up on Mount Teide, in the Anaga mountains of Tenerife or on the quieter trails of La Gomera and El Hierro, signal can drop on any network. How much data for a Canary Islands holiday?
