Mobile data in Orlando for park days

In Orlando the phone does more work than anywhere else on a US trip: it holds the park tickets, joins the virtual queues and orders lunch. The United States eSIM puts it on Verizon and AT&T with data only, so your own number stays on for calls, texts and WhatsApp.

MCO: three terminals and a train station

Orlando International has three terminals, A, B and the newer C. At A and B, taxis load on Level 1, as do LYNX buses at Terminal A, while ride-app pickups are on a different level, so open the app before following the ground transport signs and check the door it gives you. Most visitors heading to International Drive or the resorts take a ride app, a taxi or a hotel shuttle; LYNX buses are slower but do serve the tourist areas.

The airport's train station sits beside Terminal C, reached from A and B on the Terminal Link, and Brightline trains leave from there for Miami. Connect the eSIM on the ground and the car can be booked before your bags come out.

Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Disney: tickets, virtual queues and Mobile Order in one app

At Walt Disney World the day runs through the My Disney Experience app: park reservations, Lightning Lane bookings, wait times, Mobile Order for food and the PhotoPass pictures. Some of the most popular rides use a virtual queue that you can only join in the app, at set times, and the places go quickly, so the phone needs a working connection at that exact moment rather than a hunt for wifi.

Disney offers free guest wifi in its parks, but in a long queue or a packed plaza the eSIM is the connection you control. Before leaving the hotel, make sure you are logged in and that every ticket in your party is linked to your account.

Universal and a battery that runs out first

Universal Orlando works the same way through its own app: maps, wait times, mobile food ordering and the Virtual Line, which some rides, including at Epic Universe, use instead of a physical queue. Both only work once you are inside the right park, or CityWalk for food, so you cannot sort them out on the hotel wifi in the morning.

A day of refreshing wait times, scanning tickets and sending videos drains the battery faster than it uses data, and the Florida heat makes it worse. Carry a power bank, lower the screen brightness and keep the phone out of direct sun on the rides where you queue outside.

Kennedy Space Center and cruises from Port Canaveral

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is about an hour's drive east of Orlando, and most visitors give it the whole day; Cocoa Beach is on the same stretch of coast. Port Canaveral, close by, is where many cruises leave from. The US pack keeps working at the terminal until the ship heads out to sea; on board it does not connect to the ship's network, and stops in the Bahamas or Mexico are outside the United States.

For a port day in Cozumel, the Mexico eSIM is the one that works. Heading south to Miami, by Brightline or by car, stays in Florida and on the same eSIM.

How much data for Orlando

Park days are heavy on apps but light on video, so four or five days at Disney and Universal, with wifi at the hotel, fit in the 5 GB pack, valid for 30 days. A shorter visit with two or three park days works on 3 GB, which lasts 15 days.

Families often put the eSIM on one phone and share it with the others through the hotspot; with three or four devices on it all day, 10 GB is the safer size. If everyone wants their own connection in the parks, buy one eSIM per traveller in the same order. Buy up to 180 days ahead: it only starts counting at the first connection in the United States. The packs are on the United States page.

Questions
Can I join Disney virtual queues with this eSIM?

Yes. The My Disney Experience app only needs a data connection, and the eSIM provides it inside the parks. Your Disney account and linked tickets do the rest.

Does it work at Port Canaveral and on the cruise?

At the port, yes. Once the ship is at sea the eSIM does not connect to the ship's network, and ports in the Bahamas or Mexico are outside the US pack.

Will it work on the Brightline train to Miami?

Yes. The line runs entirely through Florida, so the pack covers the whole trip. Signal between stations depends on the networks along the track.

Can one eSIM cover the whole family?

One eSIM goes on one phone, but that phone can share its data with the others through the hotspot. If each person needs their own connection in the parks, buy one eSIM per traveller.

Get your eSIM before you fly: the QR arrives by email in minutes and the plan only starts when you connect at your destination.

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
