Mobile data in Miami for visitors
Miami is spread across the mainland, the causeways and Miami Beach, so most visitors rely on the map and a ride app more than on the train. The United States eSIM connects to Verizon and AT&T and carries data only: your own number stays on the phone for calls, texts and WhatsApp.

- For a one-week trip
- 5 GB for 30 days: 8,99 €.

MIA, the Mover and the Orange Line
At Miami International, the free MIA Mover leaves from the third level, between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages, and runs to the Miami Intermodal Center. From there Metrorail's Orange Line goes downtown to Government Center, where the free Metromover continues to Brickell and the bayfront. Tri-Rail also starts at the same station and heads north towards Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
If you are going straight to Miami Beach or to the cruise port with suitcases, a ride app is simpler. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line while the plane taxis to the gate, and you can compare the options and find the pickup point before you reach baggage claim.

Will it work on my phone?
On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.
On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.
It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Metromover, the beach trolley and the transit apps
Metrorail and Metrobus accept contactless bank cards and phone wallets, and the county's GO Miami-Dade app sells day and week passes and shows nearby stops and vehicles in real time. The Metromover loops around downtown and Brickell at no charge, which makes it the easiest way between hotels and the bayfront.
Across the causeways, the City of Miami Beach runs a free trolley on several routes between South Beach and North Beach. The city points riders to the Transit app to track it, so install that before you land. Do not confuse it with the City of Miami trolley, which serves the mainland and has a tracker of its own.
PortMiami: what works on a cruise and what does not
Many visitors are in Miami for a cruise. At the PortMiami terminals the US pack works as it does anywhere else in the city, until the ship leaves the coast behind. At sea the phone only sees the ship's own network, which is not a land network and is not covered by a travel eSIM; the ship's wifi is the way to stay online. The same rules apply on any sea, as we explain in our cruise guide.
Ports abroad need their own plan. The US pack gives no data in Nassau or on the Bahamas cruise islands. Cozumel and Costa Maya are in Mexico, covered by the Mexico eSIM, and San Juan has its own Puerto Rico eSIM on Claro. Before boarding, switch off data roaming on your usual line so the ship's network cannot bill it.
The Keys, the Everglades and the train to Orlando
The drive down the Overseas Highway to Key West stays in Florida, so the same pack works across the islands; save the map offline anyway for the long bridges. Inland, the National Park Service lists cell service in the Everglades as limited and advises downloading maps and park information before you arrive.
Going north, Brightline trains run from MiamiCentral, downtown, to Orlando, stopping at Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, and end at a station beside Terminal C of Orlando International Airport. The whole line is in Florida, so the eSIM covers the journey and the theme parks at the other end.
How much data for Miami
Four days of beach, Wynwood and Little Havana, with the map open and a few ride-app trips, fit in the 3 GB pack, which lasts 15 days. Those 15 days also suit a common cruise pattern: a night or two in Miami before boarding, a week at sea when the eSIM sits unused, and a day back on land. Add a drive to the Keys or share the connection with a second phone and 5 GB, valid for 30 days, is the safer size.
Buy up to 180 days ahead and install it at home on wifi; the plan only starts when it first connects in the United States, and you can top it up without reinstalling. Every size is on the United States page.
Does the eSIM work on the cruise ship?
Only while the ship is in port or close enough to the Florida coast for the phone to see a land network. At sea it does not use the ship's network, so you need the ship's wifi.
Will it work in Nassau or Cozumel?
No. The US pack only works in the United States. Cozumel is covered by the Mexico eSIM; for a day in the Bahamas, save offline maps or use the ship's wifi.
Can I pay for Metrorail with my phone?
Yes, by tapping a contactless bank card or a phone wallet. That charges your bank card, not the eSIM, which only provides the data for the GO Miami-Dade app and the map.
Does it work all the way to Key West?
Yes. The Keys are part of Florida, so the pack applies there as it does in Miami. Keep an offline map for the long bridges between islands.
