Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

What 4G and 5G change in practice

For maps, messaging, email and social media the difference is small — 4G handles all of it comfortably. 5G shows up on large downloads and when uploading video. If a network here is listed as 4G, nothing you normally do while travelling will feel slower.

So how many GB for a week?

Do I need it if I am coming from Spain?

Usually not: EU roaming covers Portugal at no extra cost. It pays off if your plan has a small allowance, or if you are staying for weeks and would rather not use it up.

I am coming from Brazil. How much does that change?

Quite a lot. Brazil sits outside the European Union, so your operator bills Portugal as intercontinental roaming, usually per day of use or per megabyte and at steep rates. This eSIM is a local Portuguese plan: you pay once, you know what it costs, and there is no surprise bill waiting when you get home.

Which networks will I connect to in Portugal?

Vodafone and NOS, both on 5G. Your phone picks whichever has the best signal and switches on its own. Two networks show their worth on the coast and inland, where coverage varies between operators.

I am visiting Portugal and Spain. One pack?
