Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Gibraltar left the European Union with Brexit, so a Spanish or French plan stops having EU roaming the moment you cross the border. Do I really pay roaming in Gibraltar coming from Spain?

Yes. Gibraltar left the European Union with Brexit, so EU roaming no longer applies and your operator charges its non-EU rate. Check what yours charges before you cross, because it varies a lot between them.

Which network do I connect to?

GibTel, the Gibraltar network, on 5G. It is the only one available here, so your phone has no alternative to fall back on: wherever GibTel reaches, so do you.

I am only crossing for the day. Is it worth it?

It depends what your operator charges for a day outside the EU. What tends to happen by accident is that your phone latches onto the Gibraltar network from the Spanish side, near the crossing, and starts charging before you have even walked over.

I am visiting Gibraltar and then Spain. Which pack?
