Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

What 4G and 5G change in practice

For maps, messaging, email and social media the difference is small — 4G handles all of it comfortably. 5G shows up on large downloads and when uploading video. If a network here is listed as 4G, nothing you normally do while travelling will feel slower.

So how many GB for a week?

At 300 MB a day a week comes to about 2 GB, which is why the 3 GB pack covers most short trips. Add video most evenings and you are closer to 8 GB for the same week. If you are unsure, the calculator asks five questions and works it out.

Brexit took the UK out of EU roaming, and since then each operator decides for itself. Some Spanish and European operators still include it at no extra cost, others bill it separately — and most of those that include it cut the roaming data allowance far below what you get at home. Is roaming in the UK still free?

It depends on your operator. The UK stopped being covered by the EU regulation after Brexit, so including it is no longer compulsory. Several Spanish operators keep it free voluntarily and others bill it separately. Check your own plan: it is the only way to be sure.

My operator says it is included. Do I need an eSIM?

Maybe not. But look at the data cap: plans that keep the UK usually give far fewer gigabytes while roaming than at home, and going over is billed by usage. For anything longer than a weekend, or if you lean on maps and video, your own pack is more predictable.

Which networks will I connect to?

O2 and EE on 5G, and Three on 4G. Your phone picks whichever has the best signal at any moment and switches on its own.

Does it cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

Yes, the pack covers the whole United Kingdom. Note that Ireland is a separate country and is in the EU: for Dublin you need the Ireland pack or the 33-country Europe one.
