Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Slovenia

  • Telemach 5G
  • Mobitel 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Slovenia is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU. There are two networks, Telemach and Mobitel, both on 5G. It is a small country but a very mountainous one: in the Julian Alps and the closed valleys, coverage depends on where you are.

Before you buy

One week, one loop: Bled, Soča and Piran

Most visitors see Slovenia as a loop by car: Ljubljana, then Bled and Bohinj, over the Vršič pass into the Soča valley, and down to Piran on the coast. The country is small enough to do all of that in a week, and 5 GB for 30 days covers the navigation, the messages to guesthouses and the photos of a trip like that.

Ljubljana with a day at Bled fits in 3 GB for 15 days. Three weeks in a campervan, or remote work with a laptop on the hotspot, calls for 10 or 20 GB. The eSIM only starts counting when it first connects in Slovenia, so you can buy it as soon as the trip is booked, up to 180 days ahead, and install it whenever suits you.

When the loop spills into Italy or Croatia

Slovenia's best-known corners sit close to its borders. Kobarid and Bovec, in the Soča valley, are near Italy; Koper and Piran are a short drive from Trieste and from Croatian Istria; Kranjska Gora is a few kilometres from both Austria and Italy. A Slovenia pack works only in Slovenia, so it gives you nothing over lunch in Trieste, a night in Rovinj or the drive down to the Croatian coast.

If your route leaves the country at any point, the Europe pack covers Slovenia, Italy, Croatia and Austria in one eSIM, with nothing to change at the border. If you are staying inside Slovenia, which plenty of people do for a full week, the country pack is the one to buy.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Slovenia. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Slovenia, answered

Which pack for three weeks in a campervan?

The 10 GB and 20 GB packs both last 30 days, so either covers three weeks. Navigation and campsite bookings use little; video, photo uploads and a laptop on the hotspot are what push you to 20 GB.

Will I have signal on the Vršič pass and in the Soča valley?

The pack runs on Telemach and Mobitel, both on 5G, so you get whatever the Slovenian networks give there. On the Vršič hairpins and in the tighter parts of the valley both can drop for a while, so load the day's route in Kranjska Gora or Bovec before you set off.

Does it work at Bled and around Triglav?

In the towns and on the roads, yes. On mountain routes and in closed valleys there are stretches with no signal, the same as with any Slovenian SIM: what is missing there is a mast.

I am visiting Slovenia and also Croatia or Italy. Does this work?

No, this one covers Slovenia only. The 33-country Europe pack includes all three, which is the usual route through that corner.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
