Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

City guides in Italy

Each one has its own guide: from the airport to the centre, where the signal drops and how much data you need.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Italy

  • TIM 5G
  • Iliad 5G
  • Wind 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

If you are travelling from another EU country, your own plan already covers data in Italy and you probably need nothing. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU — the UK, the Americas, Asia — where roaming bills climb fast, and for anyone who would rather not burn their home allowance on a long trip.

Before you buy

Rome to Venice by train, or the south by car

A long weekend in Rome, Venice or Florence fits in the 3 GB pack, which runs for 15 days. The classic first trip, Rome, Florence and Venice joined by high-speed trains over eight to ten days, is a 5 GB trip: the data goes on train tickets, timed entries and walking maps, and that pack lasts 30 days.

The south asks for more. A week or two driving the Amalfi Coast, Puglia or Sicily, with the phone navigating, finding somewhere to park and booking an agriturismo for the night, is where 10 GB stops you rationing. Take 20 GB for a month in the country, a language course in Florence or Bologna, or a laptop working off the phone between towns. The 5, 10 and 20 GB packs all last 30 days.

Ferries to Greece and Croatia, and the hop into Slovenia

Plenty of Italian routes end on a boat. Ferries sail from Ancona and Bari to Split and Dubrovnik, and from the same two ports to Patras and Igoumenitsa in Greece. In the north-east, Trieste is a short drive from Slovenia, and the lakes lead on to Lugano, or to the Bernina Express from Tirano into Switzerland. The Italy pack stops giving data at each of those borders.

If one of them is on your route, the Europe pack covers Italy, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia and Switzerland on the same eSIM, counting from the first connection in Italy. It comes in 3, 10 and 20 GB, with no 5 GB size, so ten days with a Greek leg usually means the 10 GB one. For the Croatian coast on its own there is a Croatia eSIM.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Italy. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Italy, answered

We land in Rome and fly home from Venice. Does that change anything?

No. The pack works anywhere in Italy, so arriving and leaving through different airports makes no difference. It starts on the first connection in Italy and runs for its 15 or 30 days wherever you go next in the country.

I am coming from the UK. Am I covered?

It depends on your British operator. After Brexit several reintroduced paid roaming in the EU and others kept it with lower data caps. Check before you fly: it is the difference between paying 4,49 € and finding a surprise on your bill.

Does it work in Sicily, Sardinia and on the smaller islands?

Yes. They are all part of Italy, so the same pack works on Sicily, Sardinia, Capri or the Aeolian Islands exactly as it does on the mainland, with nothing extra to buy for the island days.

I am visiting Italy and Switzerland. Does this pack work?

No, this one covers Italy only. Switzerland sits outside the EU and needs its own pack, or the 33-country Europe one, which includes both. If your trip crosses into Switzerland, take the Europe pack.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
