Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

City guides in Ireland

Each one has its own guide: from the airport to the centre, where the signal drops and how much data you need.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Ireland

  • Eir 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Ireland is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU. There is a single network in the feed here, Eir, on 5G: that means there is no second one to fall back on where it does not reach, which shows up more on the west coast and inland than in Dublin.

Before you buy

Dublin and Wicklow, or the whole west coast: which pack

Four days in Dublin, with a train out to Howth or a coach to Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains, fit in the 3 GB pack, valid for 15 days. Flights from North America also land at Shannon, and from there most people work along the west: the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Galway and Connemara in a week of driving is a 5 GB trip, most of it maps, B&B bookings and photos.

The longer loops are where the bigger sizes pay off. Add the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle peninsula, or follow the Wild Atlantic Way up to Donegal over two weeks, and 10 GB leaves room for a passenger navigating on a tablet from your hotspot. The 5, 10 and 20 GB packs all run for 30 days, so the 20 GB one suits a month working remotely from Dublin or Galway.

Day tours to the Causeway, and arrivals from Britain

Two kinds of Irish trip leave the Republic without much warning. The coach tours from Dublin to the Giant's Causeway, usually with a stop in Belfast, spend most of the day in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. And many visitors come over by ferry after some days in England or Wales, from Holyhead or Liverpool to Dublin, or from Fishguard and Pembroke to Rosslare.

The Ireland pack covers neither the day in the North nor the British leg. The Europe pack does: it includes Ireland and the United Kingdom on the same eSIM, so the tour bus and the ferry port stay online. It comes in 3 GB for 15 days and 10 or 20 GB for 30 days. If you never leave the Republic, the packs above are enough, and for Britain alone there is a UK eSIM.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Ireland. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Ireland, answered

I am taking the car over on the ferry. When does the pack start?

Only when the eSIM first connects in Ireland, not on the day you sail. Install it at home, then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line once you drive off at Dublin Port or Rosslare.

Can a passenger use my data to navigate in the hire car?

Yes. Hotspot is included, so one phone can share its data with a passenger's phone or a tablet. With two devices running maps on a long drive west, 10 GB is a safer size than 5 GB.

Does it work outside Dublin?

You connect to the same physical network an Irish SIM uses: wherever Eir reaches, so do you. There are coverage gaps in rural areas and on the west coast, and no eSIM fixes that, because the problem is the mast and not the card.

I am visiting Ireland and Northern Ireland. Does this work?

No. Northern Ireland is the UK and left the EU with Brexit, so this pack does not cover it. The 33-country Europe pack includes both, and that is the one to take if you are crossing.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
