Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

City guides in Germany

Each one has its own guide: from the airport to the centre, where the signal drops and how much data you need.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Germany

  • O2 5G
  • Vodafone 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Germany is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data and you probably need nothing. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU, or for long stays where you would rather not burn your home allowance. Two networks are available here, O2 and Vodafone, and your phone moves to whichever has the better signal on its own.

Before you buy

A Berlin weekend, a trade fair or a month in Germany

A long weekend in Berlin, or three days in Munich with an afternoon at Neuschwanstein, fits in the 3 GB pack, which lasts 15 days. A week on the train between Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne, or a slow drive down the Romantic Road, is a 5 GB trip: timetables, tickets and the map take most of it.

Business travel is where Germany is different. A few days at a trade fair in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf or Hanover often end with the laptop working off the phone's hotspot between halls, and that is what the 10 GB pack is for. The 20 GB pack suits a month in the country, or a family sharing one connection on a two-week road trip. Every size from 5 GB up runs for 30 days from the first connection, so you choose by data, not by dates.

When the airport or the river is not in Germany

Some trips to Germany start or end across a border. Visitors to Freiburg and the Black Forest often fly into EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, which stands on French soil. Berchtesgaden and the Königssee are closest to Salzburg airport, in Austria. In both cases the Germany pack has no data when you land: it only starts once the phone connects in Germany.

Rhine cruises between Basel and Amsterdam set off in Switzerland, often stop at Strasbourg, in France, and end in the Netherlands, and a day on Lake Constance can take in German, Austrian and Swiss shores. For any of these, the Europe pack covers every country on one eSIM. If you land in Germany and stay there, the packs above are enough, and they include a 5 GB size the Europe pack does not offer.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Germany. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Germany, answered

I change planes in Frankfurt and come back to Germany later. When do I switch it on?

Not during the layover. The days start with the first connection in Germany, and an airport transfer counts. Leave the eSIM line off in transit and turn it on when you return for the German part of the trip.

I am moving to Germany for a job or a degree. Is this enough to start with?

For the first weeks, yes: the 20 GB pack lasts 30 days and keeps you online while you look for a flat and open an account. It is data only, with no German number, so anything that asks for one by SMS has to wait for a local contract.

Does it work on trains and outside the cities?

You connect to the same physical network a German SIM uses: wherever O2 or Vodafone reach, so do you. In tunnels and on some rural stretches there are gaps, and no eSIM fixes that, because the problem is the mast and not the card. What does help is having two networks: if one does not reach, your phone tries the other.

I am visiting Germany and also Austria or Switzerland. Does this pack work?

No, this one covers Germany only. The 33-country Europe pack includes all three, Switzerland included even though it sits outside the EU. If your trip crosses any border, take that one.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
