Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Cyprus is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU. There are two networks, Vodafone and Epic, both on 5G. These are Republic of Cyprus operators: if your trip crosses to the north of the line, we cannot guarantee coverage there.

Before you buy

Larnaca or Paphos: the first hour after landing

Almost every visitor arrives at one of two airports: Larnaca, in the south-east, or Paphos, on the west coast. From either one the first hour usually means a hire car or a transfer, a motorway and an address in a resort you have never seen, so it helps to have data before you reach the arrivals hall. Install the eSIM at home from the QR code in your email: it waits, and starts counting only when your phone first connects to Vodafone or Epic after you land.

It is meant for travellers whose own plan charges roaming in Cyprus: visitors from Israel, Lebanon, the Gulf or further afield. If you are not sure what yours does here, the roaming map shows which plans are covered at home prices.

A resort week, a road trip or a winter month

A week based in Ayia Napa, Protaras or Paphos, with the odd drive to another beach, stays well within 3 GB. A road trip changes the numbers. A loop from Paphos up into the Troodos villages, down to Limassol and on to Larnaca and Nicosia over eight to ten days means hours of navigation a day, and the 5 GB pack, valid for 30 days, fits it better.

Cyprus also draws long stays in winter, when the weather is still mild. For a month of daily use take 10 GB, and 20 GB if you work from a laptop over the hotspot, which is included. Travelling to Cyprus, answered

I am flying in from the UK. Is my own plan enough?

It depends on your operator. UK plans are no longer covered by the EU roaming rules, so some include Cyprus at no extra cost and others add a daily charge. If yours charges, a Cyprus pack covers the trip; if it does not, you probably do not need one.

My trip continues to Israel or Turkey. Does any pack follow me?

No. Neither country is in the Cyprus pack or in the 33-country Europe pack, so the eSIM stops working when you leave Cyprus. For the next leg you need a separate pack for that country.

Does it work in the north of the island?

The networks in this pack are Republic of Cyprus operators. North of the line the operator is a different one and we cannot promise you service. If you plan to spend time there, factor that in before buying.

How many GB for a week at the beach?

Maps, messaging and some social media use around 300 MB a day, so the 3 GB pack covers the week. If you upload a lot of photos or video, the 10 GB one leaves more room.
