Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

The networks you connect to in Turkey

  • Vodafone 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Turkey sits outside EU roaming, so even a European plan charges for data there, and Istanbul is a city you get around by phone: ferry times across the Bosphorus, tram stops, the way back through the old town. This eSIM connects to Vodafone on 5G from the moment you land, whether at Istanbul Airport, Sabiha Gökçen or Antalya. It is data only, with no Turkish number, so WhatsApp keeps your usual one. It works only in Turkey, not on the Greek islands across the water.

Before you buy

Istanbul, Cappadocia and the coast: which pack

Four or five days in Istanbul with two nights in Cappadocia, the classic first trip, fit in the 3 GB pack if you lean on hotel wifi; it lasts 15 days. If you keep maps open all day and post the hot-air balloons at sunrise, the 5 GB pack, valid for 30 days, is the safer choice.

A two-week loop that adds Pamukkale, Ephesus and a stretch of the Aegean or Mediterranean coast means long bus or car days with navigation running, and that is a 10 GB trip. The 20 GB pack is for a month in the country or for working remotely from Istanbul. If the phone also feeds a laptop or a travel partner's phone, go one size up. To size it to your own plans, try the data calculator.

Two airports, domestic flights and the Greek islands

Install the eSIM at home on wifi: the QR comes by email and the plan only starts when it first connects in Turkey. Istanbul has two airports, Istanbul Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side, and both have domestic flights to Cappadocia, landing at Nevşehir or Kayseri. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you land; it keeps working when you get off the domestic flight.

From Bodrum, ferries cross to Kos in under an hour, and many visitors go for the day. Kos is Greece, so the Turkish eSIM stops working there. On an EU plan, Greece is inside EU roaming; from elsewhere, add a Greece eSIM. Carrying on east to the Caucasus? Georgia needs its own too.

Questions

Travelling to Turkey, answered

Which network will I use in Turkey?

Vodafone, on 5G. The phone connects to it on its own as soon as you turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.

Will it work on a day trip from Bodrum to Kos?

No. Kos is a Greek island and the packs only work in Turkey. An EU plan covers Greece through EU roaming; from outside the EU you need a Greece eSIM.

Which pack for a week in Istanbul and Cappadocia?

The 3 GB pack, which lasts 15 days, if you use maps and messaging and lean on hotel wifi. If you post a lot of video or share the connection, take 5 GB.

Does it work if I arrive on a cruise at Kuşadası?

Yes, once the ship is in port and the phone picks up the Turkish network, and the plan starts counting at that first connection. It does not work at sea or in Greek ports; for one day ashore at Ephesus, the 3 GB pack is plenty.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
