Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

The networks you connect to in Thailand

  • TrueMove H 5G
  • DTAC 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Thailand trips tend to move: Bangkok, a night train or a short flight north to Chiang Mai, then islands on one coast or the other. Along the way you book ferries, call rides through an app and share locations with people you met two days ago, so data matters more than it does on a city break. This eSIM uses TrueMove H and DTAC, both on 5G, and only starts counting when it first connects in Thailand.

Before you buy

Bangkok, the north and the islands

Five or six days in Bangkok, or a long weekend there tagged onto another trip, fits the 3 GB pack, which lasts 15 days. The common two-week route, Bangkok, then Chiang Mai, then a week on an island, is a 5 GB trip, and that pack runs for 30 days.

Three weeks or more, or any trip where you post a lot from the beach, is a 10 GB trip. The 20 GB pack is for a month or more, or for working from a laptop in Chiang Mai or on an island through the hotspot. Plenty of people end a Thai trip by crossing into a neighbouring country: these packs stop at the border, so look at the Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam or Malaysia eSIM for that leg. The data calculator works it out for your own route.

Arriving, and getting to the islands

Most long-haul flights land at Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok, the country's busiest airport. Don Mueang, Bangkok's other airport, handles many regional and domestic flights, and Phuket and Chiang Mai also take international arrivals. Install the eSIM at home over wifi with the QR code from the email, and turn on the eSIM line and its data roaming when you land; the days count from that first connection.

Island hopping is where the data plan earns its keep. Koh Samui has its own airport with flights from Bangkok, while Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are reached by ferry, so you end up checking timetables, piers and tickets on the move. If you run low halfway through, top up the same eSIM without reinstalling, even from a beach with no shop in sight.

Questions

Travelling to Thailand, answered

Which networks does the eSIM use in Thailand?

TrueMove H and DTAC, both with 5G. The two brands now belong to the same company, True Corporation, after their operators merged. Your phone picks whichever has the best signal and switches on its own.

Can I order a Grab with it?

Yes, ride-hailing apps such as Grab only need a data connection, and Grab works in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Pattaya. Keep your usual number active for any app that sends you an SMS code, because this eSIM has no number.

Which pack for three weeks between Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the islands?

The 10 GB pack, which runs for 30 days. Three weeks of maps, ride apps, ferry tickets and beach photos usually go past 5 GB, and 10 GB leaves room for some streaming in the evenings.

Does it also work in Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam?

No, this pack only works in Thailand. If you cross the border, buy the eSIM for the next country as well; you can install both before you leave home.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
