Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Finland

  • DNA 5G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Finland is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU. There is a single network in the feed here, DNA, on 5G: wherever DNA reaches you have coverage, and there is no second one to fall back on where it does not. In the south that matters little; in Lapland, more.

Before you buy

Rovaniemi, Levi or Saariselkä: sizing a Lapland trip

A Christmas trip to Rovaniemi, three or four nights with Santa Claus Village, a husky ride and a reindeer farm, fits in the 3 GB pack, valid for 15 days. A week based in Levi or Saariselkä, flying into Kittilä or Ivalo, is a 5 GB trip: aurora alerts, ski-bus times and the photos you send home in the evening.

Take 10 GB if you share the connection with a tablet in a cabin without reliable wifi, or if you drive between resorts with the map open the whole way. A winter season working at a resort, or a month in Helsinki, calls for 20 GB. The 5, 10 and 20 GB packs last 30 days, so a long stay does not run out of days before it runs out of data. A summer split between Helsinki and a cottage in the Lakeland works out the same way.

Overnight from Stockholm, and Lapland roads into Sweden and Norway

Finland is often one stop on a longer Nordic route. The overnight ferries from Stockholm arrive in Helsinki or Turku in the morning. In the north, Tornio runs straight into Haparanda on the Swedish side, the road through Kilpisjärvi carries on to Tromsø, and the drive from Inari up to the North Cape crosses into Norway. Tallinn is two hours across the gulf from Helsinki.

The Finland pack stops at each of those borders. If your route touches Sweden, Norway or Estonia, the Europe pack covers all of them on one eSIM, and it starts counting with its first connection, wherever that happens. Kept inside Finland, the trip is better served by the packs above, where 5 GB for 30 days sits between the Europe pack's 3 GB and 10 GB. For the Swedish side alone there is a Sweden eSIM.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Finland. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Finland, answered

A week in Lapland plus two nights in Helsinki: 3 GB or 5 GB?

The 3 GB pack lasts 15 days, so the dates fit, but nine days of maps, aurora apps and photos leave little margin. The 5 GB pack is the comfortable choice and runs for 30 days.

Will it keep working if I walk over to Haparanda from Tornio?

No. The pack works only in Finland, and Haparanda is in Sweden even though the two towns meet in the middle. Close to the border the phone may also latch onto a Swedish mast while you are still in Tornio: if the data stops, choose DNA by hand in the network settings.

What about Lapland or watching the northern lights?

In towns and on main roads there is usually signal. Out in open country at night, away from settlements, there are areas with no coverage, and that is down to there being no mast nearby rather than to the card.

I am visiting Finland and also Estonia or Sweden. Does this work?

No, this one covers Finland only. The 33-country Europe pack includes all three, which is the usual choice if you cross the gulf to Tallinn.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
