Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone: Settings → General → About, and scroll to EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Every iPhone from the XS (2018) onwards does.

On Android: Settings → About phone → Status, and look for EID. If there is an EID, your phone takes eSIMs. Most Galaxy S20, Pixel 3 and later do.

It also has to be carrier-unlocked. If you bought it outright or your contract is over, it almost certainly is.

Coverage

The networks you connect to in Croatia

  • Tele2 5G
  • A1 4G

Your phone picks whichever of these has the best signal where you are, and switches on its own. Nothing to configure.

Work out my data

Croatia is in the European Union, so if you are travelling from another European country your own plan already covers data. This eSIM is for visitors arriving from outside the EU. The two networks here are not equivalent: Tele2 carries 5G and A1 appears as 4G. Along the coast and on the islands coverage is good in the towns, and thinner on ferry crossings and in some coves.

Before you buy

Driving the coast from Istria to Dubrovnik

A road trip down the Croatian coast often starts in Istria, coming in from Trieste or Slovenia, and ends in Dubrovnik, with a detour inland to Plitvice on the way. If the first days are in Italy or Slovenia, the Europe pack covers Italy, Slovenia and Croatia in one eSIM; the Croatia pack only starts working once you are in Croatia.

Over two weeks of driving, with navigation running every day and bookings made as you go, 10 GB for 30 days is the usual size. A week between Split and Dubrovnik fits in 5 GB. South of Split, watch the old coast road through Neum: that short strip is Bosnia and Herzegovina, outside both the Croatia pack and the Europe pack, and the Pelješac Bridge, open since 2022, takes you round it without leaving Croatia.

Island-hopping and sailing weeks

A summer spent between Split, Hvar, Brač and Korčula by catamaran and car ferry is a 5 GB trip for one person over a week or two. A long weekend in Dubrovnik or Zagreb fits in 3 GB for 15 days.

Sailing changes the maths. Out at anchor there is no harbour wifi, so on a chartered yacht or a gulet one phone often becomes the hotspot for the whole crew's weather apps, maps and messages. The pack allows that, but size it for everyone sharing it: four people for a week is a 10 or 20 GB trip, not a 3 GB one. The hotspot guide explains how to set it up before you leave the marina.

Crossing borders?

One pack, 33 countries

The packs above only work in Croatia. For about 2 € more these work across all of Europe — same eSIM, nothing to change at the border.

3 GB Europe · 33 countries · 15 days 6,90 € 2,30 €/GB
Recommended 10 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 15,90 € 1,59 €/GB
20 GB Europe · 33 countries · 30 days 23,90 € 1,20 €/GB
Questions

Travelling to Croatia, answered

I am arriving by ferry from Ancona or Bari. When does the plan start?

When your phone first connects to a Croatian network, as the ferry nears the coast or once you are in port. Install it at home before you leave, because the Croatia pack does not work in Italy or out on the open sea.

Does the Croatia pack work through Neum?

No. Neum is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is outside both the Croatia pack and the Europe pack, so data stops for the few minutes the coast road takes to cross it. Once you are back in Croatia the phone picks up Tele2 or A1 again.

Will I have coverage on the islands and the ferry?

In the island towns, usually yes, the same as a Croatian SIM would get. Mid-crossing the signal comes and goes, because the masts are on land. That happens to any SIM; it is not an eSIM thing.

I am visiting Croatia and also Slovenia or Montenegro. Does this work?

This one covers Croatia only. The 33-country Europe pack includes Slovenia; Montenegro is not on the list, so check before you go if the trip runs that far south.

Who is behind this

A person, not a call centre

Snoozim is run from Barcelona by Ibai Guirado Vera. It exists because paying for roaming by the day on a short trip made no sense. If something goes wrong with your eSIM you write, and the same person who built this answers you, within 24 hours.
